Because Stan Musial had a reputation as being such a good sport, role model, and kind friend to so many players and fans, his on-field performance is overlooked. From 1946-52, Stan Musial was the most successful offensive player in the game, winning five MLB batting titles in seven years—and probably would have won another if he did not miss a year for military service. During his 22 seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals, perhaps only Mickey Mantle, Ted Williams, and Joe Dimaggio played better baseball than Musial. Although St. Louis had a winning history, its market paled in comparison to the bright lights of New York and Boston, so Musial received less attention for his achievements. Nonetheless, it does not diminish his place in baseball history. A glance at his career stats reveals that he finished atop or near the top of more than ten stat categories throughout the heart of his career. It is no wonder he won three MVP awards and finished second in MVP voting four times. Musial’s prize rookie card is his ‘48 Bowman. He does not have a ‘48 Leaf and there is no ‘48 Topps, so this is it. It is fairly common in low grade. In a high grade? Near impossible to find. For perspective, out of the nearly 2,000 times they've inspected the card, PSA has only awarded 15 examples a PSA 9. How many have earned a PSA 10? One. The certification number on this card has been checked against the third-party grader's online database and is active as of 07/08/2025.
