Has anything connected to dog food ever been so beautiful? In 1954, collectors could order one of three different sets of 11 baseball cards through a special mail-away offer from Morrell Meats, maker of Red Heart dog food. One set could be had for two labels and 10 cents. Headlining the first set, discernable by its red background, is Stan Musial.
Already considered to be a short print compared to the other two sets, there's additional notoriety for this card of the Cardinals great. Both Topps and Bowman produced sets in 1954. Musial isn't in either of them. This makes Red Heart his top card for the season and one of the best from Musial's playing career.
Of the more than 600 copies of this card submitted to PSA, just 10 have received a Mint 9 grade with none higher.
The certification number on this card has been checked against the third-party grader's online database and is active as of 07/09/2025.
