Everyone knows about Hank Aaron’s home runs. The story is not just about how many he hit but also how consistently he hit them for such a long stretch. But many people might not realize that Aaron was a sensational hitter. To hit that many home runs and still bat for average is a feat few players accomplish. Most home run hitters historically hit around .240 because they are so frequently swinging for the fences, which reduces contact. Over 23 seasons, Aaron had a .305 batting average. That is shockingly good. In 1957, he led the league in home runs (44) and still batted .322. He won a batting title in 1959 (.355) and still hit 39 home runs. Any objective read on his stats reveals a massively talented hitter. Aaron’s cardboard debut hails from the third set Topps ever produced, and it ranks among the most recognized and coveted baseball cards in the industry. 1954 Topps Baseball blends a stunning color portrait of Aaron with a smaller black-and-white action photo, and both press against a vibrant orange background that many collectors instantly associate with “Hammerin’ Hank.” Of the more than 7,500 times that PSA has assessed this card, just 43 copies have a higher grade than this stunning NM-MT 8. The certification number on this card has been checked against the third-party grader's online database and is active as of 12/04/2025.
