The 1997 Metal Universe Championship PMG Michael Jordan celebrates the 1996-97 season, during which the Bulls won 69 games and Jordan captured his fifth title and the Finals MVP. Most notably, in Game 5, with the series against Malone and Stockton of the venerable Jazz tied 2-2, Michael Jordan came down with the flu. But the flu had another think coming. The world soon learned that the only cure for the flu is Michael Jordan. Most players will never score 38 points in a game. Michael Jordan did it with a brutal flu in a pivotal Game 5 of the NBA Finals on the road. The only thing sicker than Michael Jordan was his performance. The image of Scottie Pippen carrying a wilting Jordan off the court remains as indelible as any moment in his career, with the Flu Game going down in history as one of the greatest moments in NBA history. In the ‘90s, SkyBox cards ranked among the greatest, too. The decade saw its share of parallels and engaging designs, but few hold a candle to PMG cards. The Metal Universe Championship PMG insert issues were limited to /50 and featured many players soaring in front of their team’s hometown landmarks. Other players received galactic or nature-based backgrounds instead. The cityscapes especially appeal to fans collecting hometown players as they often hold special meaning. Widely credited with rescuing the industry from overproduction, these scarce SkyBbox cards ushered in a new era. One of Jordan’s most popular and valuable cards, this iconic insert features MJ making his way to the basket with the Chicago Skyline in the background. It is one of the few cards that features him in his team’s hometown, and it is one of his most difficult cards to locate, especially in quality condition. The second iteration of basketball Precious Metal Gems, the '97 Metal Universe Championship PMG print run was dropped down to /50. The same difficulties present with collecting their red and green predecessors remained, with full-foil fronts that scratched and chipped easily. This PSA 7.5 presents a rare opportunity to own one of the greatest Jordan cards of all time. It's a chance that will have plenty of bidders fighting off illness, fellow collectors, and anything else that might stand in their way this month. The certification number on this card has been checked against the third-party grader's online database and is active as of 06/03/25.
