In 1997, Fleer/SkyBox introduced the Precious Metal Gems parallel to the football card market. After transitioning the Metal line into Metal Universe, the company produced a red parallel to the set numbered /150 (the first 15 sets featured green foil). The PMG only existed for three years in the football market, but it remains among the most highly sought-after 1990s sets. And when it comes to players of that era, few can match the reverence with which collectors hold Barry Sanders. Cards of the Lions legend featuring low Pop. counts, low print runs, and high grades always garner extreme interest in the rare instances they become available. And this stunning '97 Metal Universe PMG combines all of those aspects into one gorgeous package. Precious Metal Gems are difficult to find in high grade thanks to their foil covering that bleeds to the edges of the card, often resulting in chipping. PSA has assessed 17 examples of this card, with this one of only seven to earn a PSA 8 designation with only one graded higher.
