Michael Jordan made his celebrated NBA debut on October 26, 1984, and the Chicago Bulls made it a party – hailing the event as a franchise-shifting moment. Jordan threw a block party of his own to celebrate the occasion. With four rejections against the Washington Bullets, Jordan became the eighth player in NBA history to stuff that many shots in his debut (since the NBA officially adopted the stat in 1973). He added 16 points, seven assists, six rebounds, and a pair of steals in a star-studded introduction to the NBA. Jordan quickly became regarded as a dominating scorer, but he always took care to play with an all-around style, eventually garnering nine All-Defense Team selections to complement his 10 scoring titles. That became evident in Jordan’s two biggest scoring seasons in 1986-87 (37.1 ppg.) and 1987-88 (35.0) because in that same span, he finished as the only guard inside the top 40 with 256 blocked shots – the 14th-best total in the NBA. Fleer re-introduced itself to the basketball card market in time to match up with Jordan’s big-time emergence in 1986. The company wanted to throw a party with its first set in 25 years, but collectors did not match Fleer’s excitement upon the product’s release. Over time, as interest in both His Airness and basketball cards continued to grow, collectors celebrated the set – specifically card #57, Jordan’s rookie card. Today, it ranks up there in hobby iconography and importance as the T206 Honus Wagner and 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle. This copy ranks as one of the top condition copies in existence.
