As far as iconic baseball sets go, 1993 Finest ranks among the most groundbreaking. Finest introduced the first chromium sports cards, which helped pull the industry out of an era of cheap stock, terrible designs, and massive overproduction. Topps produced only 4,000 cases of Finest, which provided the manufactured scarcity necessary to keep card prices afloat. But the most revolutionary inclusion in Topps’ newest product was one most collectors have taken for granted in the ultra-modern age: Refractors. These rainbow-finish parallels offered scarcity never before seen in sports cards. Falling roughly one per hobby box, each Refractor had an estimated print run of 241, though 34 subjects were supposedly short prints. This Ken Griffey Jr. All-Star Refractor is one of the issues believed to be even rarer than the standard Refractor. Like all chromium products, Finest issues were incredibly prone to scuffs and scratches, making this PSA 10 example a true treasure.
