Players of the Pokemon Red & Blue games who managed to defeat all 8 gym leaders, the Elite Four, and subsequently their rival however found an absolute terror awaiting them deep in the heart of Cerulean Cave as a final obstacle for them: Mewtwo. Teased at throughout Cinnabar Island, Mewtwo was created by Team Rocket in a secret lab by using a genetic sample of the Mew, the first Pokemon said to have been created. Sitting at the highest level of any Pokemon found naturally in the game at level 70, Mewtwo came equipped with the powerful Psychic attack, as well as the move Recovery which allowed it to heal 50% of its max hit points. With first generation psychic-type Pokemon having few weaknesses, even if your Pokemon were strong enough to do damage to it, Mewtwo would just use Recovery making any attempts to catch it a drawn out and arduous affair. Due to this overwhelming power, any Pokemon trainers lucky enough to manage to catch it instantly had Mewtwo take up one of their six party slots, making it one of the most popular Pokemon ever created. This Japanese No Rarity Base Set Mewtwo is one of only nine examples currently graded a PSA 10. It rarely appears on the open market. Where English Base Set has 1st Edition, Japanese Base Set has No Rarity. Instead of the infamous 1st edition stamp below the left-hand corner of the artwork that is the telltale sign of English 1st Edition, the Japanese No Rarity version of the card is missing the black star on the bottom right corner of the card. Widely considered by players of the first generation of Pokemon games to be the most overpowered of all Pokemon, this iteration designed by Ken Sugimori gave life into the pixelated game artwork, oozing the pure essence of power that players who faced it in this final battle felt.
