Alongside the 1999 English Base Set 1st Edition Charizard and the 1998 Pikachu Illustrator, the No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 Trainer cards showcasing Pikachu celebrating with a trophy stand as the most famous Pokémon cards ever produced.
This No. 3 Trainer was earned at one of five 1998 Kamex Mega Battle regional tournaments in Japan. The Kamex series, named after Blastoise, marked the third and final time these iconic Pikachu artworks were ever used, following the first official Pokémon tournament and the 1997-98 Lizardon Mega Battle Series (named after Charizard).
With five Kamex tournaments in the series, this is one of only five examples of this card, which references the Kamex events being the second such series in its description copy below the artwork, distributed to competitors. Its bronze holofoil background and depiction of Pikachu holding a bronze trophy distinguish it from its No. 1 and No. 2 peers. Four of these cards have been graded by PSA, with this the only one earning a coveted PSA 10 holder.
The Fanatics Collect November Premier Auction is the first time a No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3 Kamex Mega Battle Trophy Pikachu are up for public auction at the same time. The winning bidder who captures any or all of these landmark issues will surely be celebrating in a similar manner to Pikachu in Mitsuhiro Arita’s iconic portrayal of the beloved character.
The certification number on this card has been checked against the third-party grader's online database and is active as of 11/05/24.
