Tom Brady came to the Patriots in 2000 as an unheralded sixth-round draft pick from Michigan. Even with that late draft status, he earned a place in many 2000 football card releases.
Among them was 2000 Leaf Certified Football, a hobby-exclusive release in its second year. The set expanded to a five-tier checklist, giving veterans one- and two-star treatment. The checklist's 100 rookies are broken up into three numbered groups—Three Star, Four Star, and Five Star. With Brady’s place as a Four-Star rookie, collectors faced a challenge uncovering parallels from his tier. Four-Star Mirror Red parallels fell once every 125 packs or approximately every seventh box. With 30 cards on the checklist, odds for finding any specific player such as Brady, was about 1:3,750 packs. While not serial numbered, this is a tough parallel from the seven-time Super Bowl winner's rookie season.
