This 2013-14 Fleer Showcase Metal Universe Precious Metal Gems Green Wayne Gretzky deserves to be considered an iconic hockey card. Numbered /10, it's the rarest of the three PMG levels in 2013-14 Fleer Showcase Hockey, joining Red (/75) and Blue (/25).
The brightly colored parallels, which debuted in the late 1990s basketball, baseball and football products, have since gone on to become some of the most coveted sports cards of all-time—not just for their era, but any period. After acquiring the Fleer and SkyBox brands, Upper Deck expanded PMGs into other sports and areas including hockey. 2013-14 Fleer Showcase is just the second NHL release to include the parallels.
This card is a great one of The Great One, combining the PMG prestige with extreme rarity and the fact that it's a hockey card of the best player to ever step on the ice in NHL history. Gretzky holds or is near the top of every major offensive NHL record. He was also a big reason for hockey's rise in popularity in the United States. Gretzky's place in the game is indisputable, much like the status PMG Green cards hold among collectors.
