1998-99 Topps Finest Basketball included a 40-card insert set called Mystery Finest. The first 20, like this Michael Jordan-Kobe Bryant combo, were in Series 1 packs while the second half came in Series 2. To add more of a chase, they came with rare Refractors. In Series 1, these fell 1:133 packs. That's an astounding 1:2,660 packs potentially to land the Jordan/Bryant.
Mystery Finest came with another twist. Finding one in a pack, collectors didn't know what players they got let alone whether it was a Refractor. The double-sided cards came with a black film on both sides, hiding which card it was. The result was an interesting twist that helps the cards stand out today just as much as their colorful pop and, here, legendary player combination.
