Shohei Ohtani became a name in North America upon his arrival in MLB in 2018. In his home country of Japan, though, he was a superstar long before that. His baseball cards debut dates back to 2013. BBM included him in several products that year including multiple in their set dedicated to Ohtani's team, the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters. His main card has two versions—hitting and pitching. This is the hitting version's Gold parallel. Numbered 057/200, it's a rarity among Ohtani's earliest cards.
Traditionally, baseball cards showing Ohtani at the plate are preferred by a lot of collectors versus their pitching counterparts.
